Windows Phone跟其它Mobile OS如iOS和Android最大的分別，不得不提的是稱作Metro UI的界面了。Windows Phone的Live tiles可說是結合了Icon和Widget的設計，讓用家按下Live tile以開啟Apps/ Games之餘，同時顯示相關的新訊息。另外，Metro UI中的Panorama界面也讓用家能在同一頁面中檢視不同類別的資訊 (例如在Marketplace中，用家能在同一頁面掃視Top/ New/ Featured的Apps和Games，而不用在不同的頁面之間切換)。

Metro UI在面世半年內，就已獲得International Design Excellence Awards國際設計獎項了。Isabel Ancona (一位User Experience Consultant)是如此說的:

The innovation here is the fluidity of experience and focus on the data, without using tradition user interface conventions of windows and frames.  Data becomes the visual elements and controls. Simple gestures and transitions guide the user deeper into content. A truly elegant and unique experience.
